Efforts to strengthen the City of Quincy’s cyber security

QUINCY (WGEM) – The Quincy City Council had a second reading of an ordinance that officials said would strengthen the city’s cybersecurity.

Quincy IT Manager Corey Dean said the ordinance will restore funds to the IT budget that were used to purchase dual-factor authentication equipment and consulting services several months ago.

Dean explained how it works, saying that each user will be issued tokens that they will need when they log into their city devices.

“It means you have more than just a login password,” Dean said. “You have something you have, not just something you know, so there are more factors that come into play.”

The council also voted to pass an ordinance that will increase water customers’ bills by the end of the year to cover the cost of increasing the city’s water utility costs.
